De Kunstpraktijk shows in the gallery and bed & breakfast the on tour exhibition a slice of QuiltArt by the international group QuiltArt as well as acrylic paintings by Finnish artist Selina Suominen.

For more than 25 years QuiltArt is working on making the quilt an art form by bringing it to attention by delivering presentations in Europe and North America. A slice of QuiltArt began its journey in 2010 and was previously seen in Birmingham, Munich, Sitges, Prague, Tinahely, Budapest and Rijswijk.

Selina Suominen is especially interested in quilts because of the political and historical aspects related to this craft. In 2010 she made a number of paintings (shown in the Dutch Cacao Factory in Helmond, The Netherlands) in which quilt patterns were used to refer to patterns of the social life within the family that were passed on from generation to generation. The binding nature of these social patterns are repetitive patterns that are reflected in her work. Suominen also made new paintings for the exhibition at De Kunstpraktijk, this in response to a slice of QuiltArt. In 1998 Suominen got her degree at the Art Institute of Lahti (Finland). During her study she participated in an exchange program with the Academy of Art & Design in Den Bosch. Currently Suominen lives and works for nearly fourteen years in Eindhoven, City of Light.

Patchwork and quilting for children
At the OEQC your (grand)child can discover patchwork and quilting. They will be really surprised and at the same time inspired to make a beautiful piece of art; a bag, blanked, pillow or something else �... This year, children under 16 years accompanied by an adult have free entrance. A fun day out for the whole family!

The championships dinner
After closing time on Thursday evening 3rd May you can join dinner from 18.00 hrs. During dinner is the awards ceremony of the competition. Everybody can join dinner. You do not need to have send in a quilt. For more information or to register, please send an email to: info@oeqc.eu.

Pleats and wrappings
Since 1997 Francine Flattard is fascinated by pleats and since 2009 wrappings too. In her creations she expresses this in a very special, personal way. You can find her works in various expositions, and also at the OEQC in May this year.

Floral Quilts in Memory of Helen Pearce O’Bryant. This exhibit celebrates the traditions of floral quiltmaking and is in memory of Helen Pearce O’Bryant, the late mother of Quilts, Inc. In May 2012 this travelling exhition with all its beautiful works can be seen at the OEQC in Veldhoven. Come and admire the quilts yourself!

Floriade 2012
This beautiful World Horticultur Expo takes place from 5 April to 7 October 2012. You can easily combine your visit to the OEQC with a visit to the Floriade. Only thirty driving minutes by car from NH Koningshof, you will find the Floriade in Venlo – The Netherlands. The Floriade Park covers 66 hectares and encompasses five unique themed worlds separated by wooded areas. Each world has its own decor, programme and activities.
